The leader of the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters' (NEEF), Kalimbo Iipumbu, who is also the headman of Epyenene village, urged those in positions of power to use them for the prosperity of the country and its people.

Iipumbu made these remarks during the country's 34th Independence anniversary celebration at Epyenene village.

Celebrating Independence Day at Epyenene has been a tradition since 1990, when the late Patrick Shoopala, who was the headman then, allowed residents to watch celebrations on a black-and-white TV under a tree.
