Endobo residents still in the cold

Breadcrumb

Tsumeb residents who were evicted from the Endobo compound last year are still camping in makeshift structures.

In October last year, hundreds of Endobo compound residents were evicted due to non-payment of rent.

They have since erected makeshift structures, where they are embracing harsh weather conditions.

The number has now declined as some have moved to other places.

The dilemma is, however, that some of those whose names were given as the beneficiaries of plots from the municipality are unable to pay the N$4,600 required.

Endobo evictees call on Tsumeb Municipality on way forward

Breadcrumb

Endobo evictees who have been camping outside the compound since September 2022, are calling on the municipality to address them on the way forward.

Occupants of about 72 households were evicted from Endobo last year and 47 received plots from Tsumeb Municipality.

Currently, there are 37 families still outside Endobo, a place they have now named Osire Number 2.

Over the seven months that they settled outside the compound, the evictees say they endured heavy rains and were subjected to insect bites because they are close to a bushy area and a riverbed.
