Tsumeb residents who were evicted from the Endobo compound last year are still camping in makeshift structures.

In October last year, hundreds of Endobo compound residents were evicted due to non-payment of rent.

They have since erected makeshift structures, where they are embracing harsh weather conditions.

The number has now declined as some have moved to other places.

The dilemma is, however, that some of those whose names were given as the beneficiaries of plots from the municipality are unable to pay the N$4,600 required.

The names of others who can afford it, however, do not appear on the list.

Those who remained behind remain hopeful that they might return to the compound once the ownership of the current owner is confirmed by the court.

The municipality has provided them with a water tank for the duration of their stay here.

Some residents do not want to move, fearing that they may be excluded once the municipality starts to allocate plots.

Tsumeb Municipality Public Relations Officer Stella Imalwa-Nangolo, however, says their wait might be long as the municipality will not be allocating plots to them anytime soon.
