Residents, including children from Ohangwena Region's Onamhinda village, were relocated to higher grounds after their houses and mahangu fields were submerged by floodwaters from southern Angola.
The Ohangwena Regional leadership led by Governor Sebastian Ndeitunga toured the temporary campsites where the flood victims were relocated on an open space.
The flood victims were relocated to the site on Wednesday after water filled up their homesteads.
The Ohangwena Regional Council has provided them with clean drinking water, pit latrines, food items and firewood.
"We have about 49 children, 44 elders who are accommodated here so far. A number could continue to increase and we have another campsite where we have about 10-household members, we are relocating them from Oshikango to Onamhinda as well where we have a high side to make sure that they are safe where they are."
Ndeitunga says that although people at the campsite are provided with all the necessary amenities, more supplies of food items are needed.
"So far, we need more supply, particularly of maize meal, so that we keep on feeding those who are around here. We have been in contact with the ED- PM office, and so far, they have prioritised that the required supply will reach the region or other regions that have been affected."
He urged people who are located in flood prone areas to move to safer places as more flood waters are expected.
Chief Regional Officer for Ohangwena, Fillipus Shilongo says they were aware of the floods and have prepared themselves accordingly for any eventualities.
He says the flood victims at Onamhinda are still in need of mattresses and mosquito nets and they are anticipating that 500 people are likely to be affected by the current flood.
