Afrocats Head Coach Blames Netball Namibia for accident

Head coach of Afrocats Netball Team, Dimitri Bittler, expressed frustration over their delayed departure from Windhoek on Friday night due to awaiting the monthly grants from Netball Namibia to assist with travel expenses. Bittler criticised the administration of Netball Namibia for asserting that the funds had been disbursed when they hadn't appeared in their accounts.

"Our account is with Bank Windhoek as Netball Namibia's, so it's perplexing why the funds haven't reflected, causing a delay in our travel plans," said Bittler.

Kuvukiland, Soweto residents demand better service

Residents of Tsumeb's largest informal settlements, Kuvikiland and Soweto, are demanding better living conditions and development.

This is the fifth time residents have taken to the streets and vowed to protest until their demands are met.

The community is aggrieved by the water cuts and wants their water debts to be written off.

They also want prepaid water metres installed to better manage their use, saying that because most of them are unemployed, they cannot afford rates and taxes.

Police aim for excellence in service execution

The 12-day conference, being hosted by the Ebenezer Pentecostal Church in Namibia, attracted over 50 youth from across the country.

The 36th Ebenezer Youth of Namibia Conference is being held during the festive season to resonate with advice and motivational talks on Christian and moral values, teenage pregnancies, gender-based violence, drug abuse, and crime.

Pastor Samuel! Oë-Amseb says the meeting will help train the youth into responsible leaders.

An artist in the heart of Tsumeb's Nomtsoub settlement in the Oshikoto Region has digitalized his hand-graphic comic artworks to raise awareness about gender-based violence and abuse of social grants.

It is the wish of Mcartney Khoeseb to spread his message widely, but he is limited by funding.

The 54-year-old Khoeseb, who too is a beneficiary of disability grants, published a 23-page booklet on social grant abuse, a situation that he said defeats government efforts to improve the living standards of the affected population.

Tsumeb Copper Festival launched

A total of over N$600,000 was raised in pledges at the launch of this year's Copper Festival in Tsumeb.

The festival is slated for the 1st to the 4th of November.

Since its inception 20 years ago, the Copper Festival has developed to become a premier marketing event on the town's social and economic calendar.

Vendors in Tsumeb refuse to move to new market

LPM advocates for local job placements

The Landless People's Movement's (LPM) Chief Change Campaigner is calling upon the Namibian government, parastatals, and companies, particularly in the mining sector, to allocate at least a quarter of their job placements to local residents.

For 99-year-old Elizabeth Iilonga, a Tsumeb resident, Heroes' Day holds special significance as her four children and one grandchild selflessly dedicated their lives to Namibia's liberation struggle.

Iilonga, affectionately known as Kuku Nekulu, in an interview with the Namibia Press Agency (Nampa), commended the Namibian Government for officially designating August 26 as a day of commemoration.

The date holds deep significance for her as it memorialises the sacrifices of her children and grandson in the pursuit of a free Namibia.
