Police Arrest Three for Cannabis Possession

Police in the Otjozondjupa Region have arrested two men, aged 44 and 39, in the Omatako area, Tsumkwe West, as they were going to deliver another consignment of cannabis.

The drugs found on the suspects consist of 24 parcels of cannabis valued at N$123,000.

Another suspect was arrested at Kandu, Tsumkwe West, after she was found in possession of 20 parcels of cannabis valued at N$180,000 on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old woman was arrested after a tip-off.

All suspects will appear in the Grootfontein Magistrate's Court today.

Three women found in possession of cannabis denied bail

Three women found in possession of cannabis over the weekend were denied bail at the Rundu Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The accused, Emilia Kakuhu, Intumba Rafael Domingas, and a minor, were arrested during a Police operation called Operation Lobster.

The police received a tip from community members.

It is alleged that the accused cultivated the plants at their houses.

Upon police arrival at the house at the Ndama location on Friday, two of the suspects fled, and only a minor was found at the house, whom the police took into custody.

Prosecutor General yet to file a plea and counterclaim in the cannabis case

Prosecutor General Martha Imalwa has yet to file a plea and counterclaim in the case in which marijuana activists Brain Jaftha and Borro Ndungulu want the government to legalise the use of cannabis in Namibia.

High Court Judge Eileen Rakow has postponed the matter to August 1st.

Jaftha and Ndungulu are demanding that the legislative prohibition of the possession and use of cannabis by adults be declared inconsistent with the Constitution.

Three people found in possession of close to N$40,000 worth of cannabis made their appearance in the Rundu Magistrate Court.

The three, Robert Jombi Likuwa, Mushambe Kakuru, and Veronica Ruhupwa, were arrested at the Tuhingireni settlement.

The total amount of cannabis found in their possession was valued at N$39,000 and weighed close to 4 kg.

The suspects were granted bail of N$8,000 each and is expected to return to court on June 15 of this year.

Rehoboth tops the list of drug busts over the Easter weekend.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at Rehoboth after he was found in possession of four full and one-quarter Mandrax tablets, valued at N$550. 

Another Rehoboth resident, a 39-year-old man, was also arrested after he was found with 16 bankies of cannabis valued at N$160.

A 33-year-old man was also arrested in the same town after he was found in possession of one parcel of pure skunk valued at N$1200.
