The increasing demand for water is straining the two boreholes in the Neu Samarou Settlement, located in the Kombat area of the Otjozondjupa Region, as the population has surged to approximately 2,000 residents.
Residents queue for water every day, as the two boreholes no longer meet the demand.
Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development Evelyn !Nawases-Tayele has stressed that Kombat is a settlement under the administration of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council and has not been considered for proclamation as a town or village council.
The Otjozondjupa Regional Council will take over the water supply to residents of Kombat.
This comes after CENORED made a payment of close to N$160,000 for the installation of an independent power supply to pump water to residents.
Residents of Neu Sommerau resettlement farm near Kombat are calling on the government to improve their roads as children get stuck when they walk in the mud on the way to school during the rainy seasons.
The Neu Sommerou resettlement farm has been in existence since 2003.
The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, has called on health centres not to allow challenges that require immediate solutions to persist, saying some minor issues do not need to go through the bureaucratic system for approval to be corrected.
