Rise in Gam population triggers demand for basic services

A member of the OvaHerero Repatriation Day Committee, Johnathan Katjimune, says there is a need for the government to hastily inject into the development of Gam Settlement to meet the needs of the growing population.

Speaking to nbc News on the sidelines of OvaHerero Repatriation Day, Katjimune says with the imminent return of about 1,000 Namibian descendants from Botswana, the demand for services will outweigh the supply.

Katjimune says Gam is still challenged by a lack of grazing or farming land, housing, and education facilities that need intervention.

Botswana celebrates Dr. Hage Geingob legacy

Botswana held a state memorial service in honour of the late President Hage Geingob, honouring his legacy while cementing the relationship between the two countries.

Namibia's Minister of Works and Transport and his Botswana counterpart are happy with the progress made so far with the implementation of the Trans-Kalahari Railway Line Project.

The two ministers briefed the media on the development at Swakopmund during a Joint Ministerial Committee meeting.

In the SADC region, Botswana, on Sunday, as part of their mourning for the late Namibian leader, directed that flags countrywide be hoisted at half-mast until the late Dr. Geingob is buried.

In East Africa, Kenya's President William Ruto issued an executive order that all flags fly at half mast starting Monday as a sign of respect.

The Namibian Defence Force (NDF) is happy with the preparedness of the contingent for the upcoming Joint Peace Support Operation exercise, code-named Hanganee II, with their Botswana counterpart in the Omaheke Region.

This was said by the NDF chief, Air Marshal Martin Pinehas.

Air Marshal Pinehas conducted an inspection to assess the readiness of the participating troops and the necessary equipment for the exercise, which is scheduled to take place from the 15th to the 30th of June in the Omaheke Region.
