Botswana held a state memorial service in honour of the late President Hage Geingob, honouring his legacy while cementing the relationship between the two countries.
The two Heads of State, President Nangolo Mbumba and President Mokgweetsi Masisi, hailed the legacy left behind by Dr. Geingob.
The relationship between Namibia and Botswana dates back to the days of Namibia's struggle for independence.
A passage for most Namibians who went into exile, over the years Botswana and Namibia continued to cement their relationship, in which the late President Geingob played a major role.
The use of an identification card to enter both countries was one of many initiatives between the two countries that were successfully implemented.
Therefore, the Botswana government saw it as befitting to hold a state memorial service in honour of Dr. Geingob.
Although a sombre moment, it was also one in which to celebrate a life well lived, in service to the nation until his death.
Going down memory lane to the time of Namibia's quest for independence, President Mokgweetsi Masisi said the late President made Botswana his first stop on his way into exile.
The significance that President Geingob placed on Botswana is credited to the role that Botswana played in advocating for the independence of Namibia.
