Swapo Party MP John Likando has raised concerns regarding issues at the Katima Mulilo Abbatior since its handover to Zambezi Meat Corporation (ZAMCO) earlier this year.

Several cattle farmers in the Zambezi Region are seeking answers after they were told that their cattle would not be bought by the Katima Mulilo Meatco abattoir.

This is despite previously having registered and given a date to show up for the sale.

With more than 300,000 calves exported yearly to South Africa, Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare is calling for local value addition around cattle farming in the quest to create more employment.

The premier spoke to NBC News in an interview during the 17th edition of the Okakarara Annual Trade Fair. 

The Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform officially handed over the Rundu abattoir to MeatCo yesterday.

The abattoir is intended to serve as a market for cattle and small stock farmers in the Kavango East, West, and surrounding regions.
