57 displaced households at Aussenkher still homeless

About 30 residents of Aussenkehr, whose reed houses were destroyed by a fire two weeks ago, are still being housed in tents.  

The blazing fire displaced 57 households and claimed a life. 

The fire started at one of the reed houses before spreading quickly, leaving destruction in its wake. It claimed the life of the owner of the house where the fire started. Willem Shiyoleni burned beyond recognition.

Transport challenges hampers food aid delivery in Khorixas

As drought persists across the Kunene Region, Khorixas' constituency office is challenged by transport to deliver much-needed food aid to rural residents.

This was confirmed by Constituency Councillor Sebastian !Gobs in an interview with nbc News.

The persistent drought spell in the area has affected both humans and livestock, including harvesting and grazing pastures, as little or no rainfall has been received there for years.

Khorixas' five settlements have over 2,700 households affected and in need of drought food aid.

Over 4000 informal settlements' homes electrified

To date, the City of Windhoek has electrified 4,215 households in Windhoek's informal settlements.

This was revealed at the inauguration of the Informal Areas Electrification Project in Windhoek today.

These houses were electrified during the last five years of the previous 5-Year Electrification Plan 2017–2022, which lapsed during the last financial year 2022–2023.

The electrification project was funded by the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development and NamPower, with a combined capital investment of around N$45 million.
