32 households have received solar home systems at Swakopmund under the Towards an Inclusive Design of the Renewable Energy Transition (TIDRET) project.
TIDRET is an initiative led by the Environmental Investment Fund (EIF) under the European Union’s Climate Change and Inclusive Use of Natural Resources Project (CCIU-EU) of the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism (MEFT), administered through GIZ.
The TIDRET project aims to expand access to affordable solar and renewable energy technologies for vulnerable communities and peri-urban areas in Namibia.
Beneficiaries Jenette !Uri-ǂKhos and Wilhelmina Hidulika, who are members of the Shack Dwellers Federation, said since the installation of the solar systems, they do not buy electricity.
