Swapo Party stands in solidarity with Palestine

Voices around the world are amplifying the call to stand in solidarity with Palestine and stop the violence in which thousands have been killed.

A petition read by the Swapo Party's Secretary for External Relations, Dr. Peya Mushelenga, to the United Nations calls upon the international body on peace and security to intensify its voice and act decisively to apply pressure on Israel to stop the killings of the people of Palestine.

Namibia, Zimbabwe discuss challenges faced by liberation movements

Namibian President Dr. Hage Geingob and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently met in New York during their attendance at the UN General Assembly.

The two leaders used the opportunity to discuss the challenges faced by liberation movements and to call for the lifting of sanctions against Zimbabwe, which had been imposed by the US and other Western countries.

The courtesy meeting was the first since President Mnangagwa retained the presidency in a harmonised general election last month, where he gained 52.6% of the votes.

Namibia calls for immediate suspension of the IMF surcharges

Namibia has added its voice to the countries calling for the immediate suspension of the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) surcharges for developing countries during the 8th Ministerial meeting of the Like-Minded Group of Middle Income Countries at the UN General Assembly on Friday.

Surcharges are additional interest payments the IMF imposes on heavily indebted borrowing countries.

"As heads of state and governments, we must aim to close the water investment gap in Africa for the achievement of not only the water-related SDG targets on the continent, important as they are, but to enable the African continent to achieve her overall developmental goals."

This was the clarion call by President Hage Geingob during the launch of the International High-Level Panel Campaign, titled Mind the Gap: Invest in Water Raising Ambition, in a speech read on his behalf by the Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, Carl Schlettwein.
