UNAM encourages students to study indigenous languages

The Head of Academic Affairs at the University of Namibia's Southern Campus has called on prospective students to apply for the Early Childhood and Junior Primary courses.

Rauna Namukwambi says that there are still spaces available for students who major in Khoekhoegowab, Afrikaans, and Otjiherero languages.

Namukwambi was speaking during an exclusive interview with nbc News at Keetmanshoop.

Placement pressures sees Narraville High School open prematurely

A new school, still to be christened and without an electricity connection or office block and further lacking teachers, opened its doors to close to four hundred learners between grades seven and nine.

The school opened prematurely on Monday due to the high demand for placement in Walvis Bay's Narraville neighbourhood.

Excitement filled the air as learners and proud parents moved to the area designated as the day's assembly point, smiling brightly from ear to ear. 

Omaheke Region's poor examination results concerning

The Education Inspector in the Omaheke Region, Eliakim Kavari, says the region's poor examination results and poor performance in national rankings are serious concerns.

The new curriculum also came with its own challenges, particularly in terms of the amount of work given to learners versus the time frame and career guidance, among others.

Kavari shared this during a stakeholder engagement with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Science, Information Communication Technology, and Youth Development at Gobabis.
