The Students Union of Namibia (SUN) has urged the Ministry of Education to accelerate the payment of non-tuition fees for most students.

The Ministry of Education says its utilities' cost-saving measures are progressing well, with pilot programmes already producing significant financial savings.

The Executive Director for Finance and Administration, Knox Imbuwa, revealed this during NBC's daily programme, Namibia Connects.

For the 2024/2025 financial year, the Teaching Service Committee (TSC) has processed 2,636 staffing cases, including 346 promotions.

The TSC also processed 1,729 contract-to-permanent conversions under the In-Service Education and Training (INSET) programme.

The President of the National Organisation of Parents in Education (NOAPE), Paulus Hauwanga, has said the organisation will actively ensure that parents and guardians play their role in the education sector. 

The Minister of Education, Sanet Steenkamp, has visited the Zambezi Region to assess the impact of flooding on the education sector.

Dr. Steenkamp visited the affected Nankutwe Combined and Namiyundu Primary Schools, as well as the relocation centres at Lusese and Schumansburg Combined School.

The Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp, said they are handling the flood situation affecting schools in the Zambezi Region.

The Teachers Union of Namibia (TUN) will hold a Day of Action next week to review the just-concluded agreement on salary and benefits for public servants.

Learners from various schools in Eenhana, Ohangwena Region, took to the streets on Friday to protest against the rising cases of violence against children.

The march, held under the banner of solidarity and justice, saw young voices demanding urgent action from national and regional authorities.
