China University of Geosciences pays Courtesy call on President

The President of the China University of Geosciences, Beijing Professor Sun Youhong, met with President Nangolo Mbumba to brief him on the fields of study offered by the university.

The visit also aims to build a bond between the Chinese University of Geosciences and the University of Namibia, with the aim of contributing to the growth of the education sector in both countries.

During the meeting, President Mbumba expressed gratitude to the Chinese University of Geosciences for conferring an honorary doctorate on the late President Geingob in 2018.

A lecturer at the University of Namibia's (UNAM) Environmental Science Department says despite legislation on improving the benefits for Namibian producers from natural resources, the actual sharing of the benefits remains unsatisfactory. 

Ndapewa Nakanyete said this during her research presentation on Rich Resources from Poor Communities: An Analysis of Namibia's Access and Benefit-Sharing Legislation at the first Spain-Namibia Climate Forum held in Windhoek on Monday. 

Desire to get rich a roadblock to educating boy child

A study carried out by the University of Namibia (UNAM) indicates that money matters and the desire to get rich is one of the factors that stands in the way of a boy child excelling in education.

This information was shared during the university's graduation ceremony at Rundu.

Of the 4,455 UNAM graduates, only 32% are male, while women make up 68%.

UNAM Rundu Campus releases 654 in job market

About 654 students graduated from the University of Namibia's Rundu Campus, making it the third campus to produce the highest number of graduates out of the 12 countrywide.

For the class of 2023, 4,455 students graduated from all 12 of UNAM's campuses. 

At Rundu, students graduated from the faculties of Education and Human Science, Health Science and Veterinary Medicine, and Commerce Management and Law.

Speaking at the event, Vice President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah congratulated the graduates. 

Finance Minister tables N$100.1 billion national budget

Finance and Public Enterprises Minister Iipumbu Shiimi tabled a N$100.1 billion national budget in the National Assembly this afternoon.

This is the first time Namibia's national budget exceeds the N$100 billion mark.

Finance Minister Iipumbu Shiimi tabled his fifth full budget under the theme, 'Continuing the Legacy of His Excellency, President Hage G. Geingob, by Caring for the Namibian Child'.
