The Governor of the ||Kharas Region, Dawid Gertze, has hailed pharmacists as unsung heroes for their role in ensuring essential medicines are available in the health care system. 

A lack of well-equipped ambulances in the Kavango East Region compromises timely medical assistance to patients in remote areas. 

This was shared by the Chief Medical Officer at the Rundu Intermediate Hospital, Dr. Medson Chibwe, with members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health.

The Rundu Intermediate Hospital is still faced with overcrowding, leading to congested corridors and long waiting times, compromising service delivery.

The hospital caters for patients from the Kavango East, Kavango West, and Zambezi regions, as well as neighbouring Angola.

The Onandjokwe Endoscopic Outreach service will soon be known as the Professor Fillemon Amaambo Endoscopic Tour.

The programme was established in 2022 to reduce waiting time for patients requiring endoscopies at Engela District Hospital.

The renovation of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Dialysis Centre at the Intermediate Hospital Rundu is back on track.

This comes after the Prime Minister, Elijah Ngurare, toured the hospital in September and enquired why the renovations had stopped. 

The new clinic in Mabushe village, located in the Kavango East Region, is nearing completion.

The construction of this new facility was necessitated by flooding at the current clinic during the rainy season, which likely caused major problems with healthcare delivery. 

The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund has donated a Lodox X-Ray Machine, valued at N$13.2 million, to the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

Some mothers who gave birth to premature babies at the Rundu State Hospital said the NEO for Namibia NGO has been a beacon of hope.

It was an emotional affair as various mothers gathered to share stories about their premature babies during the NGO's 10th anniversary. 

A decade ago, neonatal care at the Rundu State Hospital was nonexistent. As a result, hundreds of babies died, leaving parents devastated. 

Some Members of Parliament commended the Health Minister for a new approach to ensuring that government pharmacies no longer face shortages in medicine.

However, her mention that they had inherited a failing system raised interest among members of the Independence Patriots for Change.
