Cholera spreads to 8 Zambian provinces, death toll reaches 9

Cholera has now spread to 8 of the 10 provinces of Zambia as the country records its 9th death since the disease broke out in August this year.

2 new cases of cholera recorded in North Western Province of Zambia bring the number to 8 of the 10 regions of the country.

Two more cholera deaths reported in Zambia

Two more people have died of cholera in Zambia, while 21 remain admitted to hospital as the disease has continued to spread to other parts of the country.

This brings the total number of deaths to five since the disease broke out in August.

Zambezi health on alert over Mpox, Cholera in Zambia

The Health Directorate in the Zambezi Region is on high alert following reports of Mpox and cholera in neighbouring Zambia. 

Its director, Woita Kapumburu, said authorities in the region have already assembled a team of experts to continuously monitor the situation at all entry points.

With an increase in cholera cases in some SADC countries, the Directorate of Health in the Otjozondjupa Region has launched an awareness campaign to educate communities about the disease.

The campaign targets schools, rural areas, and peri-urban areas identified as at-risk communities.
