The concentration camps established in Namibia during German colonial rule represent one of the darkest chapters in the country's history, which is the 1904 to 1908 genocide against the OvaHerero and Nama people.

Twenty-eight May 1908 marked the official closure of the concentration camps that were run by the German colonial forces during the 1904-1908 genocide against the Ovaherero and Nama people.

For the first time in 125 years, the Swakopmund Museum is displaying an exhibition on the 1904-08 Herero and Nama Genocide.
