Health professionals in the Hardap Region are being equipped with practical skills on neonatal resuscitation and immediate newborn care as part of efforts to reduce preventable neonatal deaths.

Despite the dedication of midwives and progress made over the years, maternal and neonatal mortality remain a serious challenge in the country.

This was revealed at the celebration of the International Day of the Midwife, which took place in Windhoek.

The Independent Midwives Association of Namibia's representative, Tekla Mbidi, has urged fellow midwives to advocate for and promote breastfeeding.
