The Independent Midwives Association of Namibia's representative, Tekla Mbidi, has urged fellow midwives to advocate for and promote breastfeeding.

Mbidi made the call during the celebration of the International Day of the Midwife in Windhoek.

Midwives at Katutura Hospital gathered to celebrate the day under the theme "Midwives, a vital climate solution."

The day focused on the role of midwifery in tackling the climate crisis.

Midwives should ensure that women have access to care during disasters and provide care, support, and advice to pregnant women during pregnancy, labour, and the postpartum period.

They also play a critical role in providing full antenatal care, including parenting classes, clinical examinations, and screening.

The team leader at Katutura Maternity Hospital, Claudia Petrus, had this to say about the day.

The Independent Midwives Association of Namibia appreciated midwives with cupcakes in celebration of the day.
