One Health National Strategy launched

Namibia's Óne Health National Strategy' was launched in Windhoek.

The tripartite strategy is facilitated by the Ministries of Health and Social Services, Environment, Forestry, and Tourism, as well as Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, in partnership with the Africa CDC and others in academia and international cooperation. 

Its aim is to strengthen collaboration and coordination in promoting healthier ecosystems, starting at the grassroots level. 

Nampharm Foundation re-commits to transform lives of Namibian children

The Nampharm Foundation has renewed its partnership with the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) for another five years.

The Foundation, with its partners, has been tirelessly facilitating the procedures of surgically correcting closures of the cleft lip and cleft palates of children in Namibia.

The renewal of the partnership coincided with the Foundation's 19th anniversary.

The partnership between the Foundation and the Health Ministry dates back to 2012 to cooperate in conducting facial reconstructive surgeries on needy children.

Steps2Walk operates on ankle deformity patients

A group of international orthopaedic surgeons from Steps2Walk have started operations to perform surgeries on patients with crippling foot and ankle deformities in the country.

The outreach programme operated on over 20 patients between June 10 and 14 at Windhoek Central Hospital and Lady Pohamba Private Hospital. 

The programme has in total changed the lives of 75 patients in Namibia, and this year they selected 24 patients from all regions. 

nbc employees donate blood

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) had its own blood donation campaign at its headquarters in the Northern Industrial Area in Windhoek on Thursday.

This follows an appeal by the Namibia Blood Transfusion Service (NAMBTS) for the public to donate blood as NAMBTS is running low.

The Marketing Officer of the Namibia Blood Transfusion Service, Frieda Vatileni-Asino, who was present at the nbc blood donation initiative, says blood donation is an essential way of life that must be supported to make a major difference in the lives of many people. 

Genocide Remembrance Day met with mixed feeling

The Ovaherero and Nama people held a march from UN Plaza in Soweto to the Independence Memorial Museum in Windhoek in memory of the genocide of the 1904–1907 wars of extermination.

About 300 people gathered at the museum, where the official announcement of Genocide Remembrance Day as a public holiday from 2025 on was made by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Prof. Peter Katjavivi.

The declaration of Genocide Remembrance Day is not just a symbolic act; it signifies the beginning of an important journey of healing, reconciliation, and education.

Green hydrogen a way to combat climate change in Namibia - SASSCAL

The Executive Director of the Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL), Jane Olwoch, said green hydrogen is the way to combat climate change in Namibia in the future.

Dr. Olwoch said this at a Research Dissemination Meeting with SASSCAL Regional Tipping Points in Southern Africa, held in Windhoek on Thursday.

Dr. Olwoch said climate change and the globalisation of economic systems are enormous challenges for societies that demand global collaboration, cooperation, and a global perspective.

BUSINESS TODAY | Africa Travel Indaba a success

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Namibia Tourism Board, Bonnie Mbidzo, has described the Africa Travel Indaba as a success.

The NTB attended the Africa Travel Indaba from the 13th–16th of May of this month in Durban, South Africa.

Mbidzo attributed the success of the Indaba expo to the diverse number of exhibitors from all over Africa.

NTB had 27 exhibitors, of which four were fully sponsored by the Board.

Malaysian HC holds fruits and food promotion event

The Malaysian High Commission in Namibia held a 'fruits and food' promotional event in Windhoek.

The event brought together more than 150 guests, from retailers to the media, diplomats, government officials, and students, who came to taste and try Malaysian food, including fruit and other delicacies.

The five main fruits of Malaysia, including pineapple, pomelo, and red guava, have been flown from Malaysia for the promotional event.
