The government has directed that the issues of housing and sanitation be considered for declaration as a state of emergency.

Body of Christ Party Member of Parliament, Festus Thomas, has urged President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to declare a state of emergency.

This follows the brutal murders of three minor Okahandja residents.

Thomas said the murder of young children is a serious issue and should not be taken lightly.

The distribution of drought relief food in the Otjozondjupa Region's periurban areas is still moving at a snail's pace due to a lack of transport with only one truck in the region. 

Deputy Prime Minister John Mutorwa has thus asked the region to advertise its need for trucks.

President Nangolo Mbumba has declared a State of Emergency over the persistent drought affecting all regions of Namibia.

The State of Emergency has been declared as of May 22 under Article 26(1) of the Namibian Constitution as well as the Disaster Risk Management Act.
