Cancer patients in the Erongo Region will no longer have to travel to Windhoek for chemotherapy following the opening of the Walvis Bay Oncology Centre at the state hospital.
The government has reinstated the Cobalt 60 radiotherapy unit for the Dr AB May Cancer Center at the Windhoek Central Hospital to enhance its cancer treatment capacity.
The system upgrade, which cost over N$16 million, will create capacity to effectively fight cancer.
India has committed to supplying Namibia with Bhabhatron machines for the treatment of cancer at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital.
Relevant documents have already been submitted to the Namibian government regarding this.
