India has committed to supplying Namibia with Bhabhatron machines for the treatment of cancer at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital.
Relevant documents have already been submitted to the Namibian government regarding this.
The decision to supply Namibia with Bhabhatron machines was made during the visit of India's External Affairs Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, last year.
Bhabhatron is an external beam radiation therapy machine used in the treatment of cancer patients.
According to the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, the Bhabhatron machine allows for a higher tumor dose while limiting unwanted radiation to surrounding healthy tissues, resulting in superior treatment outcomes.
Mandarapu Subbarayudu, the High Commissioner of India, expressed:
"We are ready to gift it to the government of the Republic of Namibia, and we understand that it will be located at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital so that people in that region will not have to travel 600 kilometers all the way to Windhoek for treatment. This will be a public facility, so people can have access, and the moment the infrastructure is ready, the government of India will be happy to airlift it so that people can receive cancer treatment."
High Commissioner Subbarayudu was speaking to NBC News as he concluded his diplomatic duty with a farewell courtesy call on President Nangolo Mbumba at State House.
