The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts, and Culture has attributed the temporary suspension of 2027 learner admissions in parts of the Erongo Region to schools applying a first-come, first-served system, which triggered panic among parents.

Police in Gobabis have confirmed overcrowding at the Gobabis Police Station holding cells, with 233 inmates awaiting trial currently detained in a facility designed to hold only 60.

In a bid to ease the burden of overcrowding in classrooms, two new schools have been opened at Otjiwarongo . 

The new primary and secondary schools are to accommodate learners who were previously taught in overcrowded classrooms, tents, and those in a platoon system from different schools.
