More than half of income earners – amounting to 54% – earn N$2,000 or less per month, highlighting the country's low-income reality.

An amount of N$1,600 might be someone's savings, but for 77-year-old Frans Geiseb, from Omatako Village in Otjozondjupa Region, the monthly old-age pension grant is more than a personal lifeline.

It is the only source of income sustaining a household of about 25 family members.

The Namibia Household Income and Expenditure Survey (NHISES), last conducted in 2016 and originally scheduled every five years, will be carried out in 2025. 

The delay is attributed to budgetary constraints, compelling the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) to achieve more with less.
