The University of Namibia's (UNAM) Katima Mulilo campus has concluded its two-day wellness engagement targeted at its students' overall well-being.

Namibia College of Open Learning's Director for Student Support, Dr. Ndeshimona Afunde, says the institution's mandate is to widen access to education through alternative learning opportunities and models.

As the government rolls out its subsidised tertiary education funding model, the Ministry of Education has outlined who qualifies for support, which qualifications are funded, and how admissions standards at public universities will be upheld.

The task force responsible for implementing free tertiary education is expected to deliver a roadmap for the process by August this year. 

Members of the National Council are calling for free tertiary education and improved access to financial assistance for all students.

The MUN/NAMIT EduFund Grant is funding 157 students this year, covering registration fees and easing the financial burden of tertiary education.

With no repayment required, this first-of-its-kind initiative reflects MUN’s commitment to supporting its members beyond the workplace.

Education, Arts, and Culture Minister Anna Nghipondoka has called on teachers to work harder, identify challenges in the system, and address them to improve performance. 

She made these remarks at a meeting attended by the educators, from the heads of departments down to the learners.
