The government says Namibia's national honours system is meant to recognise service and exceptional achievement, not privilege, political connections or favouritism.

Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs Frans Kapofi provided the clarification as the country commemorated Heroes' Day on August 26.

The Independent Patriots for Change has cautioned against a proposal by Deputy Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs Charles Mubita to raise monthly allowances for liberation struggle veterans from two thousand two hundred dollars to five thousand, calling for fiscal responsibility and equity.

The Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs is actively conducting outreach programmes across the Oshikoto Region to engage war veterans and others involved in the national liberation struggle. 

The Deputy Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Dr. Charles Mubita, emphasised the importance for lawmakers to be cognisant of the socio-economic conditions of veterans.

Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah inaugurated a more than N$106 million state-of-the-art hostel at Schuckmansburg Combined School in the Zambezi Region on Friday. 

The Deputy Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Hilma Nicanor, reaffirmed Namibia's commitment to strengthen its friendship with the Brazilian Navy as both countries work towards shared goals.
