The Vice President, Lucia Witbooi, has reiterated efforts to address the country's housing backlog that requires coordinated private and public sector collaboration. 

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has directed the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development (MURD) and the National Planning Commission (NPC) to prioritise initiatives by youth entrepreneurs which seek to tackle Namibia's housing backlog.

The Municipality of Swakopmund has taken another step toward addressing the housing backlog by donating 165 erven to residents living on the outskirts of the DRC informal settlement.

The Keetmanshoop Municipality recently conducted a survey on land ownership in the |Gereres residential area in its efforts to improve the living conditions of residents. 

By December 2027, the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) plans to complete the construction of 546 housing units at Katima Mulilo.

The project is expected to address the housing backlog while providing affordable housing.
