Film industry in need of Funding

Funding has always been a challenge for the film industry's growth, and corporations reluctance to fund has stiffened the film industry.

The veteran film makers say producing a film is costly and that the Namibian Film Commission's annual budget is not even close to the amount needed to produce one. Vickson Hangula, a Namibian veteran filmmaker, urged the private sector to re-consider investment in the industry as it has huge potential to tackle the unemployment rate in the country. 

Film industry welcomes Mukorob

Veteran film industry players say the launch of the nbc-Multi-Choice Namibia Mukorob Project last week is the right step towards growing the industry, which has been moving at a snail's pace.

Thirteen local films were produced under the project. The films can now be accessed by millions of viewers on a continental platform, telling Namibian stories, culture, language, and landscape. The nbc News caught up with veteran Namibian filmmaker Vickson Hangula in Okahandja.

MultiChoice, nbc launch Mukorob Film Project

The Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Emma Theofelus, has urged commercial banks to consider the establishment of a specialised loan programme tailored to support local filmmakers.

She was speaking at the launch of the Mukorob Film Project in the capital on Wednesday.

MultiChoice Namibia's collaboration with the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) has enabled 13 local film production houses to release top-quality and distinct Namibian stories.

nbc's Project Mukorob to air in September

The nbc and Multi-Choice Namibia's 13 local films are set to hit your screen next month.

The project, also known as Project Mukorob, will take Namibian stories to the world.

Thirteen producers were selected out of over 200 submissions in the first phase of the production.

The local films that were produced in collaboration with the nbc, will provide compelling viewing for DStv and GOtv customers and take Namibian stories to the world as of September.

Afroprint Line launches Project Roll-A-Dice

The Afroprint Line Trading CC has launched its Project Roll-A-Dice show to promote Namibia and Africa's culture as well as creative knowledge through captivating music entertainment.

Project Roll-A-Dice aims to innovate Swift 30, a game show that is evolving from its origin as a board game.

The game show's primary focus is to showcase Namibia's rich and diverse culture through engaging entertainment trivia.

In collaboration with local creative and cultural experts, Swift 30 seeks to provide viewers with an educational experience.

Koes Community hosts beauty pageant and dance competition 

The Community of Koes in the ||Kharas Region hosted a beauty pageant and a dance competition recently.

Rodneycia Basson was crowned Miss Koes, and Young Okkz was crowned dance champion of 2023.

The Miss HFK Beauty Pageant was organised by Ferdinand Swartbooi to provide a platform for Koes residents to diversify their economic potential, which largely depends on farming and agriculture.

The beauty pageants aim was to motivate girls to self-improve and empower them.

Albert Nicanor new NASCAM CEO

The Namibian Society of Composers and Authors of Music (NASCAM) has appointed Albert Nicanor as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective August 1st, 2023.

Music lovers celebrate World Music Day in Otjiwarongo

Music lovers from all walks of life gathered at various outdoor spots in Otjiwarongo to enjoy the music of different genres in celebration of World Music Day.

Otjiwarongo, the heart of the Otjozondjupa Region, put together a music festival through the Directorate of Education, Arts, and Culture.

Trustco Group and nbc sign MoU to embark on various programmes

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) has signed a five-year memorandum of understanding with the Trustco Group to undertake several programmes.

The main focus of the agreement is to bring back the popular Winna Mariba show as well as introduce new programmes such as a sports trivia show, a financial literacy programme, and an entrepreneurship development programme.

nbc Director-General Stanley Similo explains that the sports shows will provide opportunities for Namibians to actively participate and engage in entertainment.
