Onamutai residents recieve women's community open market

Residents of Onamutai in the Oshana Region's Ongwediva Constituency have become beneficiaries of a women's community open market.

The market provides a platform for community members, especially women, to sell their goods and generate income.

For three decades, the Onamutai community has been selling their produce under a tree to sustain themselves.

However, this is now something of the past with the construction of a women's community open market by EDDD Investment at a cost of N$111,000.

Female MP's encouraged to advocate for more funding for nbc

Oshana Governor Elia Irimari has encouraged female parliamentarians participating in a capacity-building workshop for women parliamentarians in Oshakati to advocate for more funding for the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc).

ELCIN holds annual mission festival

The eastern and western Dioceses of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN) held their 153rd annual mission festival at Eembaxu and Euvathano in the Ohangwena and Oshana regions over the past weekend.

 

The mission festival is an annual event on the calendar of ELCIN where deaneries come together to commemorate and celebrate the missionary work brought by the Finnish missionaries who arrived at Omandongo in Onayena Constituency on July 7, 1870, to plant the seed of Christianity in Namibia.

 

Transport Deputy visits at NATIS offices in the Oshana and Omusati

Works and Transport Deputy Minister Veikko Nekundi had a series of familiarisation visits at NATIS offices and facilities in the Oshana and Omusati regions.

He also made a stopover at the Tsandi-Omugulugwombashe gravel road, which is vital as it leads to the Omungulu-Gwombashe national heritage site, where the first shot to commence the armed liberation struggle was fired and where heroes, heroines, and veterans of the liberation struggle are buried.

Flood waters continue to subside in Ohangwena and Oshana regions

The water levels in flood-stricken villages of the Ohangwena and Oshana regions continue to subside, giving a bit of relief to the affected residents. 

It's been close to three months since the flood waters from Angola entered Oimbadalunga Village in the Ohangwena Region. 

The flood waters spread quickly to Oimbadalunga, Eeshoke, Ohaingu and Engela villages in the Engela Constituency. 

Many keenly followed the floods with bated breath and excitement in anticipation of what would come. 

Flood victims receive donations UN organizations

The United Nations family of organizations in Namibia has donated commodities worth N$2 million towards assisting flood victims in the Ohangwena and Oshana regions.

The United Nations family came together and mobilized humanitarian assistance to people affected by floods, saying disasters and climate risks pose serious threats to key sectors of Namibia and the ultimate realization of Sustainable Development Goals.

Road Fund Administration donates towards flood victims in Northern Namibia

The Road Fund Administration (RFA) has donated N$600,000 towards flood victims in the Oshana, Omusati, and Ohangwena regions.

The devastation caused by the floods is worrisome, and RFA CEO ALI Ipinge says, as a public entity, it is duty-bound to support communities impacted by these natural disasters.

Ipinge further says the RFA will rehabilitate roads that have been washed away, damaged, or riddled with potholes in due course.

Police arrests taxi driver for rape

A 35-year-old taxi driver has been arrested for allegedly raping an 8-year-old learner whom he was contracted to transport to and from school.

It is alleged that the suspect raped the young learner twice this week, on Monday and Tuesday, after picking her up from Klein Kuppe Private School in Ongwediva.

On the two days he picked her up, he stopped at different places and raped the victim in his taxi between Ekuku and Ongwediva.

German Government delegation visits Nakayale VTC

The German Cooperation government-to-government delegation led by Marieke Wagenhavser visited Nakayale Vocational Training Center in the Omusati Region to see how their funded project has been developed.

The delegation also visited the GIZ-sponsored youth agricultural training center at Outapi.

Nakayale VTC Manager Erick Nenghwanya explained how the funds were utilized and assisted in enhancing the learning environment.

GIZ has also funded farming for resilience training.

Governors visit coast to support Namibian child

It might not be rare for a group of regional governors to be in one place, especially at state functions, but a visit to a school speaks volumes of their care towards a Namibian child.

This is what happened after five governors went all out to visit the Swakopmund Secondary School, where they had encouraging words with the learners.


The regional governors of the Ohangwena, Omusati, Kunene and Oshana regions, have had a close-door meeting with Erongo Governor earlier.
