The Inspector General of the Police, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, has instructed the Regional Commander in Zambezi to extend police services to rural communities.

Shikongo gave these instructions during the inauguration of the Crime Prevention Awareness Campaign in the Zambezi.

During his speech at the launch, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo noted that stock theft in the Zambezi surpasses that of most other regions, predominantly occurring in rural areas where livestock is often stolen.

Health and social services of young Namibians expected to improve

Health and social services for vulnerable children, adolescents, and youth in Namibia are expected to improve through the five-year Reach Namibia Programme of the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

The programme will invest about N$840 million in the provision of these services.

Elderly farmers demand payments

A group of elderly farmers from the Judea Lyaboloma Constituency have taken to the streets of Katima Mulilo, demanding overdue payments for maize sold to a local miller years ago.

The farmers from Malengalenga and Mazinyara handed a petition to the governor, demanding payment from Agrillmill in the Machita area after they allegedly sold their maize grain in 2021 without ever receiving payment from the company.

Zambezi security companies flouting labour law

The Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations, and Employment Creation says many security companies in Zambezi have not implemented the minimum wage for security guards.

This was revealed by the head of arbitration at Katima Mulilo, Bester Maiba, during the visit of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health, Social Welfare, and Labour Affairs.

Maiba says none of the security companies have applied for exemption, not to implement the Minimum wage, and instead they are failing to pay their employees for two to three months.

High Court to hold circuit sittings in Kavango East and Zambezi regions

The High Court will be holding circuit sittings in the Kavango East and Zambezi regions next month in an effort to bring justice closer to the people, alleviate the load of criminal cases on the courts, and make the presence of the superior courts felt.

The High Court, in accordance with the High Court Act, has two designated sittings: the main division in Windhoek and a local division in Oshakati.

About N$41,8 million spent as compensation on human-wildlife conflict issues

About N$41,8 million has been spent as compensation for human-wildlife conflict-related issues since 2009.

This is contained in a report presented by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism at the just-ended National Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC) in Windhoek.

The highest compensation of N$9,2 million was made last year, followed by 2021 with N$6,3 million and N$5,3 million in 2021.

N$3.3 million in compensation was made between 2011 and 2016.
