Namibia continues to strengthen its drive towards food security, with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform supporting farmers through various interventions.

The Environmental Investment Fund (EIF) has donated livestock feed to farmers in the Zambezi Region.

The N$500,000 worth of animal feed will support livestock farmers who were previously affected by floods, which led to the loss of animals in the floodplain constituencies of the region.

Zambia’s Food Reserve Agency has announced a historic maize bumper harvest of 5.1 million metric tonnes from the current farming season.

Over the past few days, the Kharas and Hardap regions have experienced heavy rain and hailstorms. To gain insight into how this weather has affected local farmers, NBC News spoke to local farmer Jacob Kruger, who said that his livestock were not harmed despite the harsh weather conditions.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform (MAFWLR) has issued a state of alert over an invasion of locust swarms in some parts of the Hardap Region. 

"Garlic can be chopped up and then put in these containers. We invite food processors to come to Sikondo to see if we can collaborate on garlic processing. When you look at the garlic in all these retailers, it is mostly imported from South Africa. And it's such a simple crop to grow."

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform plans to revive a technology centre in Rundu, after years of limited activity. The centre is expected to support agricultural mechanisation by managing and monitoring systems that benefit Green Scheme irrigation projects and subsistence farmers.

The Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia held a climate-smart beef initiative engagement, focusing on how farmers can improve the quality and productivity of their meat-producing livestock through the Beef Genomics Programme phase 3.

The recently concluded 9th Rehoboth Expo has been hailed as a significant success. In 2017, the expo showcased 17 head of elite stock; now, nearly a decade later, it has expanded to feature over 400 small stock.
