The headwoman of Ohailombo Village, Martha Namundjebo-Tilahun, has brought hope and relief to the farmers in Eengodi and Nehale LyaMpingana constituencies in the Oshikoto Region.

A lack of adequate rainfall this year has affected many people, let alone livestock.

Previously, during this time of the year, farmers could be seen transporting their animals from the main land to the cattle posts for better grazing.

However, with global warming, the situation has changed.

Government called to speed up drought relief scheme

Farmers from drought-stricken regions are calling on the government to fast-track the drought relief scheme so that they can get fodder to feed their animals.

The farmers made this call in an interview with nbc News at the just-ended Namibia National Farmers' Union Special Congress at Otjiwarongo.
According to the farmers, the drought is severe, and they are struggling to survive it.

Kavango East residents call for fairer compensation for wildlife conflict

Residents in Mukwe and Ndiyona constituencies of the Kavango East Region are the latest to join the call for a revision of compensation paid to victims of human-wildlife conflict, as they engaged with members of the parliamentary standing committee on natural resources.

During the meeting, community members emphasised that they do not comprehend how the ministry arrived at the compensation amount, and they contend that their losses far exceed the payments they receive.

Agro Marketing and Trade Agency improves relations with farmers

The Corporate Communication Officer of the Agro Marketing and Trade Agency (AMTA), Pasval Elijah, says farmers are willing to work with the agency.

Currently, AMTA is in business with 400 farmers across the country.


Ongwediva Fresh Business Produce Hub has the biggest chunk of 180, followed by Rundu with 120 horticultural farmers, while the Windhoek Collection Hub has the least with 111 farmers.

Resettled farmers in Erongo push hard to become commercial

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources says the majority of resettled farmers in the Omaruru and Karibib areas are putting in extra effort to become commercial despite water problems.

The committee visited about 10 farmers resettled by the government in the Erongo Region to assess their success and challenges.


Most resettlement farms visited at Karibib and Omaruru by the parliamentarians are run by women.

Ombara Manasse Zeraua from the Zeraua Traditional Authority is among the 58 farmers resettled by the government in Erongo.

Local farmers discuss climate adaptation challenges

A two-day agriculture conservation validation workshop aimed at getting local farmers and stakeholders to develop a programme responsive to climate adaptation challenges was held in Otjiwarongo.

The workshop was conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), and GIZ.

This is the last consultation workshop towards the finalisation of the Comprehensive Conservation Agriculture Programme 2 for Namibia.

Farmers called to desist from evicting employees due to disagreements

The Chairperson of the Omaheke Regional Council, Ignatius Kariseb, has called on the residents, particularly farmers, to desist from evicting employees because of disagreements.

Kariseb said this when he visited the family of Joseph Jacobs, who has been offloaded along the corridors of the Kalahari Constituency, allegedly by the employer at Farm Somekoms.

Kariseb, who is also the councillor of the Kalahari Constituency, called on the farmers to desist from evicting employees over an argument.

Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, Carl Schlettwein, has highlighted that the division between the commercial, disease-free livestock sector south of the red line and the communal farming sector in the northern part of the country, where diseases still prevail, is a lingering consequence of the colonial divide and rule strategy.

Schlettwein made this remark during the announcement of the new Meat Board, expressing the importance of recognising and rectifying the historical inequalities and divisions that persist in the livestock sector.
