Resettled farmers in Boomlager, Okorukambe Constituency, are grappling with a severe water shortage after their borehole dried up years ago. Residents are forced to travel long distances to fetch water from nearby farms.

One farmer, Fridrich Araeb, has been without consistent access to water for nearly ten years. He emphasized that the lack of water has significantly impacted both their garden projects and livestock production.

"We have no water, and the prices we pay for water are incredibly high, making us poorer by the day. There is an unused borehole, and we plead with the government to let us use it," Araeb stated.

Okorukambe Councillor Rocco Nguvauva confirmed that his office is aware of the issue and has been in contact with the Ministry of Land. While a new borehole was drilled, it failed to produce any water. Nguvauva expressed frustration with the ministry’s slow response to the needs of resettled farmers and pledged to raise the matter with the Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform.

Meanwhile, nbc News has learned that the Ministry of Agriculture has plans to drill another borehole at Boomlager Unit C, in hopes of easing the water crisis for the community.
