NAMDIA says that it has not recovered additional diamonds after they were robbed of the natural resource at the start of the year.
Spokesperson at the diamond processing and marketing business, Beverley Coussement, said there are no new developments to update the public regarding the investigation into the armed robbery incident.
“The value of the diamonds lost and those that have been recovered remains unchanged,” said Coussement.
Reacting to questions of whether the company has compensated employees who have been injured during the violent heist, Coussement said that any considerations related to NAMDIA’s employees are addressed internally and are guided by the company’s policies and procedures.
In March, the company said it had recovered diamonds worth N$40.6 million, leaving about N$274.3 million in unaccounted-for precious gems. The company did not disclose the location or method of the diamond recovery.
NAMDIA security officer Joel Angula and another person, Sam Shololo, have been arrested in connection with the robbery; they are scheduled to appear in court next month.
It is alleged that the suspects unlawfully entered the NAMDIA building, held staff members at gunpoint and knifepoint, and stole diamonds valued at about N$350 million.
