Effective reskilling and upskilling measures needed to mitigate negative impact of COVID-19

In an effort to mitigate the negative impact of COVID-19 on the labour market in the country, there is a need for effective reskilling and upskilling measures.

This is why the Namibian Employers Federation, together with stakeholders, developed a Rapid Skills Assessment report to identify the skills that will be needed for economic recovery. 

The report presents concise findings from the rapid skills assessment and provides practical recommendations, which, once applied, can help to limit the career-scarring effects of the pandemic on workers.

Walvis Bay Municipality secures N$23 million to construction promenade at Independence Beach

The Walvis Bay Municipality has secured a N$23 million deal with a Polish city to fund the construction of a promenade at Independence Beach.

Walvis Bay Mayor Trevino Forbes is set to lead a delegation of 11 people from the municipality to travel to Poland to sign an agreement with the city of Czerwonak.

The European Union will thereafter provide N$23 million to set up urban infrastructure at Kuisebmund's Independence beach.

Acting Chief Executive Officer David Uushona says the point is to replicate the existing promenade at the lagoon in Meersig.

Namibia looks to boost cooperation with EU through non-biding MoUs

Namibia is looking forward to enhancing cooperation with the EU through the non-binding Memorandum of Understanding on Sustainable Raw Materials and Renewable Hydrogen.

The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, said this in response to a remark that the EU was planning to ease itself off dependency on Russia's gas.

During the Namibia-EU Political Dialogue, Sinikka Antila revealed that Russian gas accounted for 40% of EU gas imports last year, but it is now only 9% of pipeline gas.

Namibians encouraged to take part in the EU film festival

Namibians are encouraged to take part in the EU film festival starting next Wednesday.

Eighteen European and Namibian films are expected to be screened in Windhoek at the Opera House.

Through the festival, European Union Ambassador to Namibia Sinikka Antila said, they aim to raise interest, awareness and educate the local audience about European and Namibian films.

The platform will also strengthen cooperation and communication between the EU and the Namibian public.
