High Court postpones Xinfeng Investments' challenge

The High Court has postponed the judgement in the Xinfeng Investments challenge to tomorrow.

The Chinese company is challenging the withdrawal of its mining licence by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Tom Alweendo.

Xinfeng has approached the Windhoek High Court on an urgent basis, asking the Court to nullify the minister's decision with immediate effect.

Alweendo has revoked the mining licence, alleging that Xinfeng was not honest in some parts of the application process.

Friedel Dausab vs Justice Minister case to continue in High Court

The matter in which Friedel Dausab has dragged the Minister of Justice, Yvonne Dausab, to court seeking High Court intervention to nullify and declare the offence of sodomy unconstitutional is set to continue before the High Court next month.

Dausab approached the court further seeking that the offence of unnatural sexual offences, including the crime of sodomy, in Schedule 1 of the Criminal Procedure Act be declared unconstitutional and invalid. 

Attorney General Festus Mbandeka has indicated that he will defend the state.

Judge Ueitele delays order for Menzies Aviation to vacate Hosea Kutako International Airport

High Court Judge Shafimana Ueitele has delayed and suspended the execution of the Supreme Court order for Menzies Aviation to vacate the Hosea Kutako International Airport.

Menzies had the tender for ground handling services at the airport, which has since been awarded to Paragon.

The Supreme Court ordered Menzies to vacate the Hosea Kutako International Airport (HKIA) after it approached the court, appealing against the decision of the Namibia Airports Company to grant the airport tender to Paragon.

Xinfeng Investments' case starts in High Court

The challenge by a Chinese lithium miner against the cancellation of its mining licence by the Minister of Mines and Energy started in the High Court this morning.

The miner, Xinfeng Investments, says that its application for the licence was detailed and included all technical requirements; therefore, the minister cannot revoke the licence.

It says the minister seemed not to have been well informed of the technical details of the application at the time of issuing the licence.

State questions Madisia and Mulundu's apologies

The State has questioned the timing of murder accused Azaan Madisia and her brother Steven Mulundu's apology to the family of the late Shannon Wasserfall.

The two are on trial for Wasserfall's murder in April 2020 and had been hiding the evidence of the deed until the body was discovered in a shallow grave outside of Walvis Bay in October of that year.

Testifying in their own defense, both Madisia and Mulundu offered their apologies to the bereaved family.

N/a’ankusê Foundation discontent with regulations by METF on keeping large carnivores in captivity

The N|A'ankusê Foundation has expressed its discontent with new regulations at the Ministry of Environment related to the keeping of large carnivores in captivity.

Director Dr. Rudie van Vuuren says the foundation has lodged an application with the High Court seeking that the regulations be put on hold for review.

Regulations relating to the keeping of large carnivores in captivity were gazetted on September 28 of this year.

Van Vuuren asserts that the regulations were gazetted without any industry stakeholder engagement.

Attorney Mbandeka dismisses AR's claim

Attorney General Festus Mbandeka dismissed AR Leader Dr Job Amupanda's claims when quizzed on the allegations that they, as respondents, are pursuing an agenda to deliberately delay the case to drain him financially.

Mbandeka, in a telephonic conversation with nbc News, says anyone, including Dr Amupanda, is at liberty to seek relief in the High Court if aggrieved.
