The Ministry of Health and Social Services has denied that it was hit with a N$14 million default judgement, saying a review of court files and internal records found no such ruling against the government.

In a media statement, the ministry’s Executive Director, Penda Ithindi, said the office had noted reports circulating on social media alleging that a High Court default judgement of N$14 million had been granted in a matter linked to medical negligence and the wrongful prescription of antiretroviral (ARV) or tuberculosis (TB) medication.

Ithindi said that after assessments conducted in consultation with government attorneys, they found that no default judgement had been granted against the government in relation to the N$14 million claim.

MoHSS denial comes despite an NBC News investigation that discovered court records within the High Court's electronic systems and shared the ruling with them.

Ithindi further said that the legal proceedings cited in the circulating reports were not properly served on the government, which the ministry said could invalidate any basis for a default judgement.

The ministry has since filed its notice to defend the claim on Tuesday last week.
