Namibia Premier League encounters rescheduled

The Namibia Premier League encounter between Orlando Pirates and Life Fighters, originally postponed due to electricity challenges at the Independence Stadium, have now been rescheduled.

The match will kick off at 17:30 today at the same venue. Reliable sources from the Ministry of Sport, Youth, and National Service have confirmed that the electricity issue has been resolved.

It is, however, important to note that the stadium can only accommodate two matches per day. As a result, the original scheduling of games for this weekend will be affected.

SA pledges commitment to providing electricity to Namibia

South Africa's Minister of Electricity has pledged his country's commitment to continue supplying electricity to Namibia.

Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa made this commitment during a media briefing in Windhoek.
 
Namibia generates about 40% of its energy needs domestically, while the remaining 60% is imported from neighbouring countries via the Southern African Power Pool. Out of this, 100 megawatts are sourced from South Africa.

However, South Africa has been grappling with energy shortages and consequent load shedding for a considerable period of time.

South residents protest against inception of Electricity Distributor Company

The anticipated establishment of an electricity supply and distribution company for the southern regions has raised the ire of residents, who say they were not consulted.
 
Local authorities and regional councils in the Hardap and ||Kharas Regions are expected to own shares in the company through the transfer of their electrical network assets to the company.

Infuriated residents from Mariental and Keetmanshoop protested against not being consulted, saying they fear the development will result in higher electricity tariffs.

Irregularities at Karasburg Town Council concerns community

The Karasburg community also raised its concerns with the minister regarding the alleged irregularities at the Town Council.

These include the dormancy of the Council's Built Together Housing Programme, irregular appointments, and water and electricity issues.

The community reiterated the complaints it lodged with the minister.

Minister Uutoni explained that replacements in any local authority under administration cannot be done overnight, as many would expect.

He denied having given preferential treatment to some community members.

||Kharas Region residents support motion to write-off of water and electricity debts

Residents of the ||Kharas Region have thrown their support behind the motion on the writing-off of water and electricity debts that local authorities owe bulk suppliers, NamWater and NamPower.

They shared their sentiments at the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Resources and Community Development public hearing at Keetmanshoop.
 
Defaulters owe NamWater N$1.7 billion, while the debt owed to NamPower stands at N$1.5 billion.

Figures revealed that local authorities are the biggest defaulters.

Namapan veterinary checkpoint watchmen in need of electricity

The checkpoint has not had electricity for the past five years, making it difficult for them to operate at night.

The checkpoint at Namapan en route to Gam is a veterinary point tasked with controlling foot and mouth disease.

The checkpoint has been without electricity for the past five years, and sometimes the officials make use of a generator, which lasts for at most three hours.

Otjimbingwe residents frustrated over lack of electricity

Residents of Otjimbingwe are frustrated over the lack of electricity in their homes.

They say letters requesting the electrification of their homes were written several times but without a positive response.

Under the rural electrification program, the government and Erongo Red have partially installed electricity at the Otjimbingwe settlement and surrounding areas.

However, those without electricity are not impressed because they have been waiting for years to have their homes electrified as well.

Khorixas' extension 11 and 12 residents receives electricity

The Khorixas Town Council has provided water and electricity to residents in extensions 11 and 12 of the informal settlement, better known as Donkerhoek.

This was revealed by Khorixas Mayor, Lena ǂGaeses, during an interview with nbc News.

The mayor said the council has also demarcated plots, formalized the area, and will later transfer ownership into the residents' names.

ǂGaeses promised that the council will bring more development aimed at improving the living conditions of the people, especially those in the informal settlement.
