Dr Hamata conferred state funeral

President Hage Geingob has conferred a state funeral on the former Health Director of the Oshana Region, Naftali Hamata. 

The Secretary to the Cabinet, Dr. George Simataa, confirmed this to nbc News.

Dr. Hamata died last week, aged 78.

The renowned medical doctor served in various portfolios after independence, including those of special advisor, medical superintendent, and regional health director, to name but a few.

During the liberation struggle, he treated wounded PLAN fighters and provided health care at Onamishu village in the Ohangwena region.

Government brings services closer to Okaku residents

The government has made considerable work in bringing services closer to the inhabitants of the Okaku Constituency in the Oshana Region.

Eighty-five percent of the residents in the constituency have access to clean drinking water.

The residents of Okaku will go to the polls on the 17th of this month, to elect a new regional councillor.

The position became vacant following the death of former councillor Gerson Kapenda last year.

Okaku is one of the largest constituencies in the Oshana Region.

Death toll from drowning incidents due to the floods has increase to four in Oshana

The death toll from drowning incidents due to the floods has increased to four. 

The latest incident happened at Onawa in the Oshana Region after a man attempted to make his way home and allegedly drowned in the deep end of a man-made hole that was dug by the town council as an embankment to shield some sections of the town from being flooded. 

Divers have retrieved the body of the deceased from the water. His name cannot be released as his next of kin are yet to be informed. 

Learners countrywide head back to school

Thousands of learners countrywide headed back to school, and among those who passed through the school gates for the first time were two six-year-old neighbors from the Oshana Region.

What was meant to be a celebration of love turned into a horror story for two families after a would-be groom set to tie the knot this morning allegedly committed suicide in the early morning hours at Onakatambili village in Oshana region.

It is alleged that the deceased, 41-year-old Petrus Iiyambo, an employee of the Namibian Defense Force with the rank of corporal, was set to get married to his fiancé this morning at Emono Catholic Church in Oshana Region.

IPC confirm Dr Panduleni Iitula as sole presidential candidate in 2024

 IPC's Chief Patriot Dr Panduleni Iitula has taken an oath accepting his candidacy as the party's sole presidential candidate for the 2024 national elections, amongst scores of party members and sympathisers at Okandjengedi in the Oshana region. 

Scores of people from the  Oshana region came out in numbers to support their party's presidential candidate and listen to his address pertaining to the 2024 Presidential and national elections. 

Iitula was sworn in by prominent lawyer Dirk Conradie with Bishop Lukas Katenda gave him his blessing ahead of the elections. 

Namibia Rural Women's Assembly hold demonstration against GBV

Rural women under the Namibia Rural Women's Assembly organization held a demonstration against gender-based violence at Ekamba Village in the Oshana Region.

The Assembly brought together women from the Oshana, Omusati, Oshikoto, and Ohangwena regions to sell their products and exchange business ideas.

The initiative is aimed at empowering rural women and bringing them under one roof to also discuss issues aimed at improving their living conditions and those affecting them.

Miss Namibia 2022, Cassia Sharpley, is visiting some schools in the Oshana Region to motivate pupils and encourage them to be their true selves.

She wants to inspire children to be who they want to be and young people to be self-sufficient and independent.

About 31 small scale fish farmers, fishermen and fishmongers in Oshana trained

About 31 small-scale fish farmers, fishermen, and fishmongers in Uulili, in the Oshana Region, are undergoing training to be equipped with the necessary skills to succeed in the sector.

The training is being conducted in collaboration with the UN agency Food and Agriculture Organization by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources.

The training will engage the fisheries sector at the grassroots level and gauge the views of locals at fishing spot areas.

Office of Ombudsman, KAS Namibia-Angola conduct training on access to justice

The Office of the Ombudsman, in partnership with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Namibia-Angola, hosted a three-day training on access to justice and the legislative framework at Ondangwa in the Oshana Region.

The workshop discussed the combating of gender-based violence, trafficking of persons, child care and protection, crime, Wills and Estates, community courts, and investigation of maladministration and human rights violations.
