Children say no to abuse

Some children from Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe have expressed their views on Children’s Day and their rights by saying abuse, access to clean water, drug addiction, and feelings of neglect are their biggest concerns.

Namibia, Zambia to facilitate mutually beneficial partnerships

Namibia and Zambia have agreed to facilitate mutually beneficial partnerships among private sector players and facilitate trade through improved market access for products.

Trade Ministers from both countries and their delegations met in Lusaka this week to take stock of the progress made in trade and investment areas of cooperation.

Products such as sugar, salt, fish, meat and meat products, wheat, maize, avocados, honey, and tomatoes are just some to be traded with through improved market access.

Paulus Noa attends Africa Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities 6th AGM

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Namibia Director General Paulus Noa attended the 6th Annual General Meeting of the Africa Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities in South Africa.

The announcement was made by the ACC on its social media pages.

The purpose of the two-day meeting, which was held from July 31 to August 1, was to discuss the battle against corruption and illicit financial flows on the African continent.

First exchange of sentenced inmates in Zambia takes place

The first exchange of sentenced inmates between Namibia and Zambia took place at Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region.

This is part of the resolution of the Namibia/Zambia joint Permanent Commission on Defense and Security to facilitate the transfer of sentenced offenders who indicated a willingness to serve the remainder of their sentences in their home countries.

15 Zambian and six Namibian convicts sentenced to prison terms were transferred during the ceremony to serve the remainder of their sentences in their countries of origin.

Namibian millionaire population expected to increase

Namibia has 2,100 US$-millionaires, and its millionaire population is expected to grow by 60% or more over the next decade, up to 2032.

Rwanda, Zambia, Seychelles, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Morocco are also expected to grow at the same rate as Namibia.

This is according to the just-published Africa Wealth Report 2023, which places South Africa as home to the majority of millionaires at 37,800 and five billionaires, followed by Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya, and Morocco.

Zambia to improve operations at Walvis Bay dry port

Zambia is working towards improving the operations at its dry port at Walvis Bay, in Namibia's Erongo Region.

President Hakainde Hichilema told guests at Zambia's 58th independence anniversary celebrations that port development is crucial to igniting other transport infrastructure and industries.

President Hichilema recently toured Zambia's dry port facilities at Walvis Bay on an invitation by President Hage Geingob.

The Zambian dry port is one of the busiest among the three ports the Namibian government gave to SADC land-locked countries.

Approximately 300 truck drivers are planning a protest over a hike in entry-permit tariffs imposed by Zambia last year.

The drivers claim Zambia's immigration authorities imposed a hike in entry permits from only N$3,400 to N$12,250 a year, which is very costly since the drivers and employers each pay 50% of the entry-permit bill.

The Swakopmund International Trade Expo opened with a call on the private and public sectors in Namibia and Zambia to cooperate in order to contribute to the development of the two countries. 

The Presidents of Namibia and Zambia co-officiated the four-day event, aimed at promoting trade and investment.

Namibian President Hage Geingob says Africa is marching towards prosperity, which goes beyond consolidating peace to promoting rapid development.
