A lack of basic necessities at Ombaka Mobile Primary School in Kunene's Epupa Circuit is severely hampering the delivery of quality education.

These include a lack of classrooms, chairs, desks, stationery, and food.

A number of learners at Ombaka Mobile Primary School sit on the floor during the lessons as the school does not have enough tables and chairs.

Fransfontein Community Garden thrives

The  Fransfontein Community Garden in the Kunene Region is thriving after receiving N$12.3 million in funding from the Environmental Investment Fund Namibia.

The farmers there have reaped a bountiful harvest, and profits are being raked in thanks to the support of the local community at the settlement and surrounding villages.

More than 1,500 people in the area bought affordable produce directly from the project.

Build Together Housing Project revived at Fransfontein Settlement

The Build Together Housing Project, aimed at addressing homelessness in Namibia, has been revived at Fransfontein Settlement in Kunene Region. 

Recently, the settlement office there has been busy with the construction of low-cost brick houses for its residents, some of whom lived in mud or zinc structures.

According to Fransfontein Village Council Control Administration Officer, Kalush Aipinge, the revived housing project is part of the initial project implemented in 1995 under the same program.

Community-Based Natural Resources Management Program unhappy about mismanagement of funds

Poaching, compensation policies, and mismanagement of conservancy funds are annoying to those involved in the Community-Based Natural Resources Management Program in Kunene.

They raised these concerns to the sub-committee on Environment, Forestry, and Tourism, which is on a fact-finding mission of various conservancies within Kunene. 

Conservancies were established to assist rural communities to generate income and bring development through the sustainable use of natural resources. 

Committees set up in Outjo to curb rising GBV, teenage pregnancies and drug abuse

Escalating cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), teenage pregnancies and drug abuse have resulted in committees being set up at Outjo in the Kunene Region to help bring the situation under control before it gets completely out of hand. 

Outjo Constituency Councilor, Johannes Antsino says his office is hard at work, collaborating with those committees that comprise private and public agencies, to integrate services and reach more people at risk.

Standard Bank Namibia donates N$400,000 to Project Never Walk Alone

The Project Never Walk Alone has received a N$400,000 donation from Standard Bank Namibia.

The donation will provide shoes for 1,275 children in the Kunene Region.

In 2023, the project intends to hand over 10,000 pairs of shoes.

Standard Bank Namibia's Chief Executive Mercia Geises recalls her barefoot journey to school in the Kunene Region.

Geises hailed platforms such as the Never Walk Alone project for driving growth and change.

Opuwo Youth Choir visits nbc

The Namibian Broadcasting Cooperation has always prided itself in promoting local content.  

This time around Opuwo Youth Choir traveled all the way to the city to grace their presence in conducting and promoting choral music.

The Founder of the Opuwo youth Choir who also doubles as the conductor comes from a musical background, and that was the strong base for him to set up a choir consisting of youth from the Kunene town of Opuwo. The choir performed beautiful harmonies that one could listen to especially during the festive season.

The call was made at Opuwo in the Kunene Region during the Swapo Party internal campaign and engagement of those vying for the top three positions.

The engagement sessions, which were held throughout the country, have been peaceful thus far.

Office of the First Lady to host youth masterclass

The Office of the First Lady will be hosting a youth masterclass as well as training on sexual and gender-based violence for frontline service providers in the Kunene Region. 

Transactional relationships, fatherlessness, problematic mindsets, moral decay, lack of contraceptives, and substance abuse, to mention a few, are part of the negative social myriad facing young people in the Kunene Region.

Upgrade of Skeleton Coast National Park progresses well

Construction and upgrading of the multi-million dollar Skeleton Coast National Park are progressing well ahead of the festive season.

Kunene Governor Marius Sheya says the skeleton coast upgrade is expected to attract more tourism activities to the area.

For years, the entry and exit gates to this park were in a dilapidated state, with no proper accommodation facilities, offices, or housing units for staff members.

New offices and a workshop are now being set up for both the police and staff of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
