Senegal's ambassador pays courtesy call on President Mbumba

President Nangolo Mbumba has once again hailed the democratic processes observed in Senegal as he congratulated President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on his election victory.

Faye emerged victorious in the first round of voting, garnering more than 54 percent of votes, and was sworn in this week.

President Mbumba held talks with Senegal's Ambassador to Namibia, Safiatiou Ndiaye, behind closed doors at State House today.

A West African researcher, Dr. Caroline Da Costa, says media coalitions in West Africa tend to be ad hoc in nature, limiting their effectiveness in addressing issues journalists face in the region.

Media coalitions are generally aimed at fostering an enabling environment for journalism and freedom of expression.

Dr. Da Costa was commissioned by the Danish-based media development organisation International Media Support to investigate the challenges of media coalitions in a sub-region marked by military upheavals such as coup de tats.

Africa's urban population is anticipated to double over the next 25 years.

These findings were revealed by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Namibia at the launch of the Just City Namibia project.

The project aims to stimulate socio-political discussions that are sensitive to the Namibian context and focus on political processes to improve the situation of urban dwellers in times of increasing rural-to-urban migration.
