Otjiwarongo Municipality and Losheim am See to cooperate in areas of climate protection

Otjiwarongo Municipality and the City of  Losheim am See in Germany, have agreed to cooperate in areas such as climate protection, biomass utilization, and the production of biochar. 

The two municipalities signed an agreement for sustainable development and environmental protection. The signing of this agreement comes amidst plans by Otjiwarongo Municipality to set up a Biomass Industrial Park project aimed at producing wood chips, charcoal, char briquettes, animal feed, bio-fuel, and bio-char, which will be exported to Germany. 

MTC, Otjiwarongo Municipality to collaborate on enhancing public service delivery

MTC and Otjiwarongo Municipality will collaborate on enhancing public service delivery through innovative digital solutions.

The two entities signed an agreement to effect the strategic cooperation. The agreement includes supporting smart metering, improving efficiency and transparency of service delivery, and improving and aligning processes and systems. 

It also includes transforming local government transaction services and enhancing data-driven business processes.

Otjiwarongo Municipality employees demands for a once-off, undisclosed payment

About 160 employees of the Otjiwarongo Municipality have taken to the streets to demand a once-off, undisclosed payment as compensation for a failed salary and wage negotiation for the 2021–2022 financial year.

The workers, under NAPWU, are demanding their dues as all efforts were allegedly met with disapproval by the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni.

Delivery of affordable housing remains priority

Delivering affordable housing remains a key government agenda item.

As such, the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, says his ministry avails millions of dollars towards the construction of houses to improve the living standards of Namibians.

Uutoni said this when he handed over more than 40 new houses, constructed at a cost of N$11 million at Otjiwarongo. 

These houses were constructed by the National Housing Enterprises after the Otjiwarongo Municipality made available land in 2021 to set up affordable units.
