The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, has called for cooperation from stakeholders to decentralise their functions and services.

Namibia has an interest in implementing Zambia's decentralisation policy, particularly the devolution of functions from central government to the local authority level.

Members of Parliament called on the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development to ensure its plan to construct 10,000 housing units per annum over the next five years becomes more than just a numbers game, urging it to tie the project to real socio-economic upliftment across towns and villages.

Governor of Kavango West Region Sirkka Ausiku has expressed her appreciation for institutions of higher learning set up in the region.
 
This was shared during the celebration of 2024 African Decentralisation, Local Governance, and Local Development Day at Nkurenkuru.

About 70% to 80% of ministries have decentralised their functions to the regions since the adoption of the Decentralisation Policy in 1997.

This is according to the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development officials, who have called on those lagging behind to improve.

Minister, Erastus Uutoni, reminded the stakeholders that bringing services closer to the grassroots level remains one of the of government's top priorities.
