MICT directed to spearhead national digital strategy and action plan

The Cabinet has directed the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology to spearhead a groundbreaking initiative, crafting a comprehensive national digital strategy and action plan.

Thus, the ministry, alongside key stakeholders in the digital realm, convened a pivotal validation workshop to fine-tune Namibia's National Digital Strategy, setting the stage for a transformative digital landscape.

Over 30 houses electrified with solar energy in Mondesa

Over 30 houses belonging to Shack Dwellers Federation members in Swakopmund's Mondesa suburb have been electrified with solar energy.

The houses were electrified through the Towards an Inclusive Design Renewable Energy Transition (TIDRET) project that is being implemented by the Environmental Investment Fund (EIF).


The Environmental Investment Fund (EIF) and Erongo Red signed a memorandum of understanding for the rollout of the project.

The TIDRET solar electrification project piloted in the Erongo Region is core-funded by the GIZ and the European Union.

Farmers receive horticulture training

About one hundred subsistence farmers in the Kavango East Region received horticulture training to profit from their produce, courtesy of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

GIZ has been offering training to subsistence farmers in the agronomy value chain for close to three years.

This time around, the training involved men and women from the Salem Irrigation Project and those from Sauyemwa who have horticulture gardens.

Subsistence farmers in the Kavango East Region are optimistic for a bumper harvest, which they attribute to the training they received from the German development agency, GIZ, on climate change.

Farmers who have been attending training on conservation agriculture from GIZ since 2011 are confident of good harvests despite poor rainfall this year.

Parliamentary Standing Committee declines a virtual presentation by Green Hydrogen Commissioner

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources, in its engagement with GIZ, the German Agency for International Development, has declined a virtual presentation by Green Hydrogen Commissioner James Mnyupe.

The committee had an engagement with GIZ management and consultants on the rollout of green hydrogen, and Mnyupe was to give a presentation on the program he is heading from State House.

Mnyupe is currently on a work assignment in Japan and wanted to do his presentation online, but the Committee would rather wait for him to return and do it in person.

German Government delegation visits Nakayale VTC

The German Cooperation government-to-government delegation led by Marieke Wagenhavser visited Nakayale Vocational Training Center in the Omusati Region to see how their funded project has been developed.

The delegation also visited the GIZ-sponsored youth agricultural training center at Outapi.

Nakayale VTC Manager Erick Nenghwanya explained how the funds were utilized and assisted in enhancing the learning environment.

GIZ has also funded farming for resilience training.

Effective reskilling and upskilling measures needed to mitigate negative impact of COVID-19

In an effort to mitigate the negative impact of COVID-19 on the labour market in the country, there is a need for effective reskilling and upskilling measures.

This is why the Namibian Employers Federation, together with stakeholders, developed a Rapid Skills Assessment report to identify the skills that will be needed for economic recovery. 

The report presents concise findings from the rapid skills assessment and provides practical recommendations, which, once applied, can help to limit the career-scarring effects of the pandemic on workers.
