Man commits suicide by slitting his throat

A 43-year-old man, Ndafelai Nghilifilwa, committed suicide by stabbing himself in the stomach and cutting his throat with a traditional knife (Omukonda) in his bedroom at Ononge village in the Nehale Lyampingana Constituency in full view of his seven-month-pregnant wife.

It’s alleged that the deceased told his 37-year-old wife that he was going to visit his mother in the morning, and upon his return in the afternoon, he came back with a container of Otombo and gave it to his wife.

Nghilifilwa then told their kids to go collect beans in their mahangu field.

Farm Josephine's murder suspect commits suicide

The suspect in a double murder case at Farm Josephine in the Dordabis district of the |Khomas Region has committed suicide.

The Namibian Police traced the suspect in the farm killings, identified as 30-year-old Michael Simaneka Martin, to the Oshikweyo Village of Eheke in the Oshana Region.

A police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, says the suspect, unfortunately, turned a gun on himself and killed himself on the spot in clear view of the police and some family members.

The stolen Land Cruiser was found a few meters away from his residence.

More suicide incidents were recorded over the past Easter weekend countrywide compared to last year.

The youngest person to take their life in this way was a 21-year-old male, while the eldest was an 84-year-old female.
 
Considering the six suicide cases reported across the country, police are urging the public to speak out concerning burning issues.

Chief Inspector Elifas Kawinga of the Namibian Police Public Relations Division says the growing rate of suicide cases in the country points to the need for intervention.

Would-be groom set to tie knot commit suicide

What was meant to be a celebration of love turned into a horror story for two families after a would-be groom set to tie the knot this morning allegedly committed suicide in the early morning hours at Onakatambili village in Oshana region.

It is alleged that the deceased, 41-year-old Petrus Iiyambo, an employee of the Namibian Defense Force with the rank of corporal, was set to get married to his fiancé this morning at Emono Catholic Church in Oshana Region.

Employees encouraged to report inappropriate behaviour at workplaces

The founder of National Mental Health Care Namibia,Cathy Kambanda has encouraged employees to immediately report any inappropriate behaviour, such as bullying at work, to management.

Kambanda believes this will minimise mental health problems among employees. Bullying often goes unnoticed in the workplace because it is a slow process of emotional and psychological manipulation that is hard to prove and detect.

Namibia has reported 790 suicides from January 2021 to July this year.

The statistics were revealed by the Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, at the recent Speak Out-Seek Help Mental Health Awareness Music Festival.

Those in the creative arts industry are the voices of the voiceless. Shangula said, encouraging artists and musicians to continue advocating for mental health.
