HICHILEMA PARDONS OVER 1,500 INMATES ON AFRICA FREEDOM DAY

Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema, in commemorating Africa Freedom Day, has exercised his prerogative of mercy on 1,505 inmates whose jail sentences have been pardoned.

Of the number, 708 inmates have been released, while 797 inmates had their sentences commuted to terminable sentences.

Zambia's incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema is among 14 candidates who have so far filed nominations for the August general elections in that country. 

The nominations are, however, still ongoing and are expected to close by the end of this week.

Boko & Hichilema launch Kazungula Bridge Authority

Botswana President Duma Boko and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema jointly officiated the launch of the Kazungula Bridge Authority yesterday.

The establishment of the Authority aims to foster regional cooperation and ensure sustainable management of the bridge.

Namibian High Commissioner presents credentials to Zambian president

Newly appointed Namibian High Commissioner to Zambia Goms Menette today presented his letter of credentials to President Hakainde Hichilema. 

He was not the only one scheduled for Tuesday. 

Other diplomats from Japan, Germany, Ghana and Colombia also presented the letters of credentials. 

Zambia Enacts Constitutional Amendment Bill

Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema signed into law the much-talked-about Constitutional Amendment Bill (7) 2025. 

Interested parties expressed mixed feelings.

This means 13 clauses that were contained in the bill are now part of the Constitution.

34 appear in court over alleged attack on Zambian President

A total of 34 people, including nine juveniles, have appeared before the Chingola Magistrate’s Court in Zambia on charges of alleged riotous behaviour and damage to property after reportedly attempting to stone President Hakainde Hichilema last month.
