SADC region, despite peaceful outlook, faces security challenges

While the southern African region remains peaceful and stable, there are still security challenges in some parts of the SADC that require an effective response.

Promoting peace and security within the SADC region topped the agenda at the Extra Ordinary Troika Summit in Lusaka, Zambia.

Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was among the attendees.

The Troika took stock and tracked progress on the situation in the Cabo Delgado province of northern Mozambique as well as the northern Kivu province in eastern DRC, marred by instability over the years. 

President Hakainde Hichilema reiterates continued support to Namibia

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema says his government will continue the support that has been extended to Namibia even after the funeral of the late President Hage Geingob.

Hichilema says Zambia, having lost two sitting presidents before, will continue to share the experience that goes with this period.

The Zambian head of state said this in an exclusive interview with nbc News correspondent Wamundila Chilinda before his departure to Lusaka.

Namibian Presidency dismisses $3,000 grants advertisement

The Presidency has dismissed an advertisement purporting that President Hage Geingob and his Zambian counterpart, Hakainde Hichilema, are giving out grants of $3,000.

The advert in question made the rounds on social media, stating that: HAGE 3000 DOLLARS CASH GRANT IS NOW OPEN AND IS ONGOING.

It further purports that the alleged cash grant is an initiative of Presidents Geingob and Hichilema, luring people to click on the link to access cash from the two statesmen.

Namibia to host Extraordinary SADC Organ Troika Summit early next week

Namibia will host the Extraordinary SADC Organ Troika Summit early next week.

The discussions will center around issues relating to politics and the security situation in the region.

The gathering will start with a meeting of senior government officials, to be followed by ministers.

The Extra-Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government is expected to be held on Tuesday.

The Organs' Incoming Chairperson and Outgoing Chairperson are expected to present their reports at the summit.

President Hage Geingob calls for immediate ceasefire in DRC

President Hage Geingob, the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, has joined the international community in calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He also urged armed groups, including M23, to disarm.

President Geingob's call for peace in the DRC follows an upsurge in armed conflict in the north of the central African country, where M23 rebels are accused of running amok and have taken control of two towns in Eastern Kivu Province.

Zambians urged to cherish freedom, peace the country enjoys

President Hage Geingob has urged Zambians to guard and cherish the freedom and peace the country has been enjoying for the past 58 years.

Dr Geingob was the guest speaker at this year's independence anniversary held at State House in the capital, Lusaka.

He says Zambia's independence was crucial as it inspired liberation movements in southern Africa to fight the colonial occupations of their motherland.

In his address, Dr Geingob says it is now time to translate that freedom into prosperity as espoused in the continental agenda 2063.

Zambia's President calls on collaboration to eliminate transport and logistics challenges- nbc

Zambia's President has called on the governments of Zambia and Namibia to work together to eliminate challenges hampering the transport and logistics network between the two countries.

Hakainde Hichilema made this call during the Namibia-Zamibia Business Seminar in Swakopmund.

The Zambian President noted the payment system concerning the African Free Trade Area is among the issues being considered by his government.
